Step into a world where Byzantine art and architecture offer profound reflections—on the past, spirituality, and the enduring influence of tradition. Reflection involves seeing and understanding, contemplating beauty and meaning, and recognizing how the past mirrors the present. Byzantine Reflections: Ancient and Modern in Church Architecture and Iconography invites you to explore these layers of reflection through photography, architecture, and iconography.
The exhibition features Ahmet Ertuğ’s evocative photographs, capturing the sacred splendor of Byzantine churches, including the two most iconic Byzantine monuments, the Haghia Sophia, and the Church of Chora (Kariye Camii) in Istanbul (Constantinople). These images mirror the past, reflecting spiritual ideals and artistic ingenuity.
Contemporary interpretations include Christ Kamages, FAIA’s architectural designs, and reimagining ancient domes and arches for modern sacred spaces.
Iconographer George Kordis bridges eras with monumental wall paintings using traditional techniques, alongside groundbreaking digital iconography panels.
By weaving historic and modern works together, the exhibition celebrates Byzantine creativity’s timeless influence.
